What belongs in a backyard hardscape plan?
Map dining and seating areas, paths, walls, steps, planting beds, utilities and drainage. A scaled layout helps establish sensible project phases and material quantities.
Can paving, turf and rock be installed in stages?
Yes, if the final elevations, drainage and edge details are decided together first. Otherwise an early patio may end up too high for a later lawn or block a needed utility route.
What makes a desert yard comfortable?
Think about afternoon sun, shade structures, surface temperature, circulation and irrigation maintenance. A large paved area is not automatically more usable than a smaller well-placed patio.
How are walls and paving coordinated?
Wall footing, backfill and drainage should be planned before nearby pavers are finished. This reduces the chance of removing new paving to build the next element.
